Question 1

What is a wheel calculator?

Accepted Answer

This wheel calculator compares wheel offset, nominal wheel/tire position, and tire diameter with a recorded OEM baseline. It does not establish physical clearance or guarantee fitment.

Question 2

What is backspacing and how does it relate to offset?

Accepted Answer

Backspacing is the distance from the mounting surface to the back edge (inner lip) of the wheel, measured in inches. It's related to offset but also accounts for wheel width. A wider wheel with the same offset will have more backspacing. The formula is: Backspacing (inches) = (Wheel Width / 2) + (Offset / 25.4).

Question 3

Will this calculator show speedometer accuracy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The FitmentStance Wheel Calculator shows the diameter difference between your current and new tire setup and calculates the speedometer error percentage.

Question 4

How do I find my vehicle's lug pattern?

Accepted Answer

Your lug pattern is the number of lug nuts and the diameter of the circle they form. Common patterns include 5x100 (Subaru BRZ/WRX, Toyota 86/GR86), 5x114.3 (Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Ford Mustang), 5x112 (Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW G-series 2019+), 5x120 (older BMW, Chevrolet Camaro), and 6-lug patterns for trucks. You can find yours in your owner's manual or search by vehicle.

Question 5

Can I run different sizes front and rear?

Accepted Answer

Yes, many vehicles run staggered setups (wider in the rear). This is common on sports cars. However, different diameter tires front to rear may trigger ABS/traction control warnings and affect AWD vehicles.

Question 6

How do wheel spacers affect fitment?

Accepted Answer

Wheel spacers push the wheel outward, effectively reducing offset. A 10mm spacer on an ET45 wheel produces the same nominal wheel position as ET35. Vehicle clearances still require direct measurement.

Question 7

What is the difference between hub-centric and lug-centric wheels?

Accepted Answer

Hub-centric wheels have a center bore that matches your hub diameter exactly, centering the wheel precisely. Lug-centric wheels rely only on the lug nuts for centering. If your aftermarket wheels have a larger center bore than your hub, you need hub-centric rings to prevent vibration at speed.
